Last Tuesday, December 6, Colonel Jerzy Pajaczkowski-Dydynski, soldier, gardener and musician died aged 111 in Allithwaite, Cumbria, England. He was Britain’s oldest man. Born in Lwow, Austria-Hungary, on July 19, 1894, he saw action in both world wars, in the first with the Austrian army against the Italians and in the second with the Polish army fighting a rearguard action against the Germans and Russians. He also saw action against the Red Army in 1920.
