Britain largest home is saved for the nation

The Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust has attracted a £3.5m grant offer from the National Heritage Memorial Fund to buy the property, as well as pledges and donations from a number of other organisations and individuals.

The stately home in 82 acres near Rotherham, South Yorkshire, took 25 years to build in the early 1700s and the 606ft-wide facade hides five miles of corridors.
